I use Q-Switch laser for both tattoo fading before a cover-up and for full staged removal. Each case is assessed individually — I give a straight answer about what's achievable and how many sessions you'll realistically need. No over-promising.
Q-Switch laser works for both. The difference is in the number of sessions and the end goal. I assess each tattoo individually and tell you which path makes sense.
Often 2–4 sessions are enough to lighten a tattoo so the cover-up can be done properly. Without lightening, dark ink forces design compromises — usually unnecessary ones.
Good option when: you have a dark or saturated tattoo, you want a cover-up with full creative freedom, you want to minimise the number of laser sessions.
Staged, safe removal of pigment — session by session, with the right gaps between treatments. Number of sessions depends on size, colour and ink depth.
Good option when: you want to completely remove the tattoo, you're not planning a cover-up, full clearance is the goal.
Send a photo or come in for a consultation. I assess colour, size and depth — and give a straight answer about how many sessions are needed and whether fading makes sense before a cover-up.
The laser breaks down the pigment into tiny particles that the lymphatic system removes naturally. Sessions last from a few minutes to half an hour depending on size. Discomfort is short and manageable.
Minimum 6–8 weeks between sessions. The skin needs to heal and the body needs time to clear the fragmented pigment. Shortening the gap reduces results.
With over 20 years of tattooing, I see this regularly: a good cover-up on dark ink is very difficult — sometimes impossible — without prior lightening. A few laser sessions can completely change what's achievable in the design and turn a compromise into something you're actually happy with.
If you're planning a cover-up and have a dark tattoo — send a photo. I'll tell you whether laser is needed or if we can work around it.
Depends on size, colour and depth. For fading before a cover-up, 2–4 sessions is often enough. For full removal of dark tattoos, 6 or more may be needed. I give a specific estimate after seeing the tattoo.
The feeling is similar to a rubber band snap — short, sharp pulses. Most people manage without anaesthetic. Numbing cream is available if needed.
At least 6–8 weeks. The skin needs to heal and the lymphatic system needs time to clear the fragmented pigment. Shortening the gap reduces effectiveness.
Depends on the tattoo. Dark, saturated ink often needs lightening to allow proper cover-up without design compromises. I assess this individually — sometimes it's fine to go straight to cover-up, sometimes laser is essential.

Q-Switch works best on black and dark pigments. Light colours and yellows may need more sessions. For fading dark tattoos before cover-up, Q-Switch works very well.
Send a photo of the tattoo and a short description — I'll tell you whether fading or removal makes sense and how many sessions you'll need.
